EFFECT OF LOCKDOWN DUE TO COVID-19 PANDEMIC ON AIR QUALITY IN THE INDUSTRIAL CITY OF EASTERN INDIA

The lockdown due to coronavirus (COVID-19) was forced in India from March, 25 May 3 2020 as precautionary actions contradiction of the diffusion infectious virus. objective this study is analyse changes air quality between pre and during Asansol, “coal mining city” Eastern characterized by high pollution levels several industries leading human discomfort even health problems. Secondary data seven parameters like CO, SO2, NO2, PM2.5, PM10, NH3, O3 have been collected website Central Pollution Control Board, AQI were calculated per calculator provided CPCB. result displays a significant reduction 33.31 % (SO2) 60.44 (PM2.5) shut down all manufacturing units transportation throughout period. index (AQI) also upgraded very poor satisfactory state Plants are main carbon sink, so, green belt project proposal for polluted city has recommended improve management. This (temporarily) showed some vaccine effect on quality, but totally against economic growth.
